With faith and living hope,
Communities wait for justice to come, from denunciations made
to the responsible institutions.
Not all receive a response, nor all an appropriate one.
They say, “The person you are looking for is not available”, or “you’re at the wrong office,”
Without taking into account state and institutional incompetence.
Farming families expect the titles of their inhabited and cultivated lands
But an inspection, measurement and verification is required
Because there are new owners who claim to have proper documentation
Constant threats by wealthy, armed men buying huge amounts of land;
Farmers, miners resisting, to avoid losing everything for no reason
Years of abandonment and now their mine given away in concession.
On the way are truth, justice and reparation,
Opportunity and fairness for working men and women regardless of race, creed and age.
Implementation of projects and resources in each location,
Entering into contracts with people, respecting wetlands, flats and forest reserve areas
Optimistically, awaiting the reality of the statistics presented in the end
And affected populations confirm it’s reality with the truth.
The bombs meant to destroy subversives continue to fall, but on the population,
Then they put them in uniform and rise in position1
Ariel fumigations to kill four coca plants left as a justification.
Day to day labor that only brings further militarization.
In the fight against drug trafficking and its protection
There’s an increase in single mothers, orphans, widows and disabled
We must put an end to this, for it is not the solution!
Some media try to show it as pain and indignation2
Distorting the reality of the processes without thorough investigation,
Accusing communities and organizations of framing the nation;
Is only to tarnish those who resist, denounce and take action
Why not cover the communities’ marches and sit-ins?
Well done alternative media for joining, it is no longer a story, it is now a song.
Nevertheless, hope remains for a better tomorrow:
To continue the dialogue, mediation, more grassroots participation
Colombia is 1,141,748 km2 and 43 million in population
Let there be change in land distribution, exploitation and production,
There is much natural wealth for everyone to enjoy, intelligent people with great ability,
Struggling to stay in their homeland, living with dignity.
